It's not so much that I am afraid of writing, but more so that I am afraid of failing at writing. It seems that everytime I write an essay for school that my grade is not always the best, I feel that I do better than my grade shows and that drops my confidence level towards writing. I can work through this by trying my hardest to succeed in writing like I believe I should be. I set the bar high as a goal and do not stop until I reach it. I believe that goals are what help people out the most in life. For me, it gives me something to aim for instead of aimlessly writing. Ways to be creative in the literacy narrative are ideas such as mixing up the way you write the text, not so much always in chronological order but also from beginning in the middle or beginning at the end. Always create and outline to help guide you along the way as you write your narrative. I do these things to help myself out to achieve the best grade I can get. I am not much of a creative person, so I just have to work with what I have. When writing, always keep in mind the purpose, audience, stance, and media.
I got to say that i agree entirely with your post. I am the same way when it comes to writing. The only difference I think is that your afraid to fail but i am more afraid of the fact people are reading what i wrote. I wish I could just get past that phobia, but it is pretty hard. I still get aggravated when i try to write my blog posts and my little brother tries to read over my shoulder. That is why i try and do all my posts in the morning while he is at school.
The object I brought to class is a mad libs book. For you that do not know what a mad libs book is, it is a fun tool to help young kids learn pronouns, nouns, verbs, and etc. This books relation to me is like this; when I was younger, I used to have fun filling out the little stories that it creates, and at the same time I would learn such things as what verbs were, or pronouns were. Mad libs are one of the things that got me interested in reading/writing. The books really helped me learn, and for a young kid, learning does not sound very fun. Mad libs are usually a narrow book that flips up word like a calendar does. The outside is very colorful and has an unusual, goofy picture on it. On the inside, one side of the two page opening would have a list that you would have to fill in with the proper grammar word. On the other side of the two page opening would be a story with blanks that you will in with the proper grammar word you chose. When you are all done, you would read the story and it was usually hilarious. When I see a mad libs book, I think of how much fun they are and how much of a great time I have while doing them. The book is made like any other book, it has regular rough paper pages all squeezed inside a smooth, cool, vinyl shell. The smell of the book reminds me of an old bookstore or an old lady's house. It is kind of musky. I have never tasted a book before, but I imagine that it is dry and tasteless. When I turn the pages, it makes a loud "swoosh" noise that reminds me of reading a book and learning new things. These mad libs books have helped me grow as a reader and as a writer while also having fun in the process.
I liked the episode of "How I Met Your Mother." I am a big fan of this TV show to begin with, and in this episode it starts to explain the title of the show a little bit more. Usually this show has pointless episodes that has nothing to do with the main point of the show; but in this episode, it explains that Ted has a child in 2015 so it kind of lays a timeline of when Ted met his wife. Somewhere between now and 2015. Usually, Barney is all about one night stands. This episodes shows how he is beginning to change. Barney, Ted, and Marshall, the three main characters, made a pact to watch the Star Wars Trilogy every three years. This event kind of keeps them together as friends. Throughout this episode, Marshall keeps the same aspirations throughout every three years; he never changes his hopes and dreams. I noticed that they were still in the same apartment by the end which tells me that they have not moved on in that aspect of their lives. The crazy man at the beginning of the episode makes you wonder; it catches your attention for the whole episode. Also, at the end they use the same guy to wrap up the episode in conclusion.
The hall was silent until she heard a loud bang from a couple rooms down. She stopped to ponder what the sound could have been. Finally she made up her mind to slowly make her way towards that door when a scruffy, young man came running out of the room. While jolting passed, the man knocked the books out of the girls hands. The girl was very discombobulated I had no idea what was going on. She decided to continue on into the classroom that the misterious man had just came running out of only to find that the door was locked and there was no way she could get in. The girl headed towards the security building to let them know what was going on. After hearing her story, the security guards chuckled as if the girl was making it all up. She was in disbelief that nobody was willing to check it out for precaution. The girl decided to take matters into her own hands. She went to the shop room at the school and got all types of tools to do whatever it takes to get into that classroom. After she gathered all of the equipment, she made her way towards the classroom where the man had ran out of earlier after a loud bang. After about ten minutes of trying to pick the lock on the door, she finally got restless and decided to break the knob off and bust her way in. Once she was in the classroom, she didn't notice anything out of the norm. Everything looked to be in the right place like nothing had fallen or broken. She had finally gave up in her Sherlock Holmes scandel and left the room. A couple days later she saw that very man walked through the hall at school. She stopped him and said "Hey! What did you do in that classroom with the loud bang the other day?" The man had answered with "I was in a hurry and dropped my books."

Election season is my least favorite time of year. Every year, ads appear on the television, radio, billboards, and internet. Most of the ads are taking shots at the opponent instead of trying to improve the candidates cause. My least favorite ads are those that appear on the television. Almost every time there is a commercial break, there will be a political advertisement. In the beginning, these ads are not too awful bad but after a while they get to the point where I just change the channel. Most of these ads are about running for president, which are not too bad because they only appear every four years. My feeling of these ads is that they are annoying. I am not eighteen years old yet so I am still unable to vote. Even if I were of age, these ads still would not persuade me to vote for a certain candidate. Over the years, I have come to conclusion that all politicians are and will always be liars. I realize that it is good to vote because we are a democracy and have freedom but it does not seem like our vote amounts to much anymore.
The main reason why the ads do not persuade me is because I am not old enough to vote yet. Since I am not of age, I feel like I have more important obligations to turn my time to instead of politics that I can not even participate in yet. I have grown up in a household where where politics were not all important; and even though my parents have always voted, they were never big about expressing their feeling of politics like some people with yard signs and other ways. I think this behavior has rubbed off on me. I do see the importance of voting because America is a free country and we should all express are feelings by voting. I think that candidates running spend way too much money on their campaigns especially now when we are in a financial crisis. I watched the vice presidential debate the other night and could not hardly stand to keep watching it when listening to what Biden and Ryan had to say. Politicians basically say the same thing every year but nothing ever gets done about the situation. The president does not have a lot of room to work with unless the Congressional House cooperates. The house is the reason why we are in the situation we are in today's world, and until next year when I am able to vote, I will continue to ignore advertisements the best I can.
The tooth fairy is a diverse character that varies in all different locations. One day, in Scotland, a young boy lost his first tooth. Most children in America get money under their pillow from the tooth fairy when they happen to lose a tooth, but in Scotland it is different. After the young boy lost his tooth he said, "Ay Lady! (Mom), I lost a big one!" The mother explained for her son to plant his tooth in the garden and the tooth fairy will bring him a gift. Later that night, after he did so, a small, fat, drunk ginger with wings flew into his room. He had a taco that was half eaten to give the little boy as a gift. Usually, the tooth fairy puts gifts in the recipients sock drawer, but since he could not find it and did not have much time, he shoved the taco into the boys shirt. The boy woke up the next morning surprised as he found a gooey sandwich looking thing inside of his shirt. He had never heard/seen a sandwich quite like this one. The red-headed boy started to eat the sandwich and loved it dearly. When the young boy grew older, he started his own taco business franchise. This franchise went global and became known as Taco Bell.
Detective Earlier this morning there was a young male found in a bathtub. The male was found at the Motel 6 downtown Chicago. The suspect is believed to be 25 years of age and the cause of death to be electrical shock. A radio was found in the bathtub with the suspect when found by the cleaning lady.
Coroner The male found today had burn marks all over his body. An electrical shock was believed to come from his hands first. Fingerprints had shown that his fingerprints were on the radio and no foul play was suspected. This is not believed to be a suicide nor a homicide; it was a tragic accident but no solutions have been rolled out yet.
Attorney I am an attorney for the radio company that had produced the radio which was the cause of death in the unusual heartbreaking case earlier this month. There was a warning label on the radio stating not to handle around water, unfortunately, accidents happen. This was a freak accident and no one is to be of blame. The company used all precautions and warnings to make the product as safe as can be. My condolences go out to the victims family and my prayers, along with the radio companies, will be with him.
Today I bumped into my ex-girlfriend in the store while going baby shopping. I once was a major player and told her that I was not the kind of person that would ever get married. I told her this to get out of a relationship; it worked with most of the women. Since that relationship, I have slowed down and got married to my wife who is now pregnant. I found it very awkward when I saw my ex-girlfriend in the store and tried to shun away from being noticed. When she recognized it was me, I could not help to do anything but to go and talk to her with a delightful attitude. I found it very awkward talking to her about my life and family to come. She seemed a little upset and uneasy. She finally started to break down and yelled, screamed, and started hitting me, saying that I was a heartless jerk that did not care about anyone but myself and that I was a mistake. I found that it was time to leave and took off in a hurry with my wife. The crazy ex-girlfriend began following us and leaving threatening messages via voicemail and email. I could not believe how one simple past relationship was able to ruin my life so much now. I feel unsafe now for my wife and child to come with the feeling that the crazy ex-girlfriend might do something to try and hurt them or myself. This day is a day that will live in infamy for the rest of my life.
I do not read horror stories nor watch scary movies so the closest thing I can think of this criteria is batman. It was a dark and cold night in the shadows of Gotham City where there was a lot of crime to be solved. Instigating some of the crime is me! The Joker! I have been the arch nemesis to batman throughout the years; we go way back. This time, my plan to take over the world will work! I have just broke out of jail once again and am on my way to destroy batman once and for all. My plan you ask? I will use a death ray on all other super heroes such as Spiderman, Superman, and Hulk. This ray will turn them into my evil minions. Once they are under my control, I will send them after batman. Nothing has been proven to withstand a superhero, so I will fight them against each other! Once batman is out of my way, I will once and for all take over the world! Nothing can stop the Joker now, and I will start my plan now! First off, I will build the death ray out of kryptonite and spiderweb. This way it will construct and weaken the superheroes. I will have a diverse plan to catch them by setting up a trap. They will think an old lady needs help and then when they get into the target zone I will hit them with the death ray, weakening them just enough to inject them with the Joker virus, putting them under my control! So long Batman!
A witch, Santa Claus, and the Easter bunny all broke into a museum. In order to get into the museum, Santa Claus had to run his rein deer through the front door. Then, the witch flew over the sensors to the other side in order to shut them off so they would not sound the alarm. The reason these three characters broke into the museum is for the annual fictional character party help every year. This year, the commity, made up of the witch, Santa Clause, and the Easter bunny, decided to hold the party at the museum in Noew York. First off, they had to clear out all of the boring, historical stuff such as dinosaurs and indians. Then they installed a dance floor, disco ball, a gift table, and a DJ... all provided by Santa Claus. The Easter bunny was incharge of inviting all of the guests. On that guest list, such characters as Super Heores, childhood cartoons, and holiday characters were invited. The party was scheduled to be held on a hallmark holiday, where there are no fictional characters at work such as Sweetest Day. The committee had to hire sandman to use sleeping dust on all of the museum staff so no one would come in until the party was over with. These characters hold this party in order to discuss how the last year has gone production wise and how the attitudes of the children habe changed. Each year they always discuss about adding a new character to the group. This year, Peter Pan was indicted into the group kind of like a hall of fame. Nothing more fun than having a family reunion inside a museum. Why a museum you ask? Because kids do not go to museums and there was no risk of being caught. The idea of the movie "Night at the Museum" originated from this concept.
After watching the videos in class today over remixing, I have a new perspective over how many things in our world are actually copied, or as you may say, "remixed" all around the world. The first video talked a bit more about copying music. It is considered okay is you cover a song and mention who actually wrote it or make enough changes to the song that there is a distinct difference, then it is okay to do so; if you do not, it is considered illegal. The way Kerby, the man who made these videos, described his videos are that everything in our world is eventually copied off of something before it. He said that the one thing that was not copied was Xerox. Xerox was the first computer if you will and was copied by Lisa and then eventually McIntosh. He mentioned a lot about how some people/corporations like Steve Jobs and Disney found it okay to copy others work but got very upset when others attempted to copy their work. My thoughts on these remixing videos are that they have a very valid point. A lot of people, including me, have/had no idea how much copying has influenced our world and how much of a problem I guess you could say it is. Everything that was stated makes sense. He provided exmaples in his video that explained what things were copied and what they were copied form; like a before and after. Copyrights and Patents were created for a reason, to protect others hard work, and it has shown that there are a lot of others trying to steal peoples hard work. Thousands of dollars of copyrights happen every year and millions of patents happen every year through court trials protecting individuals work and dedication to their inventions whether it be electronic or not.
There are many reasons to how the "inspiring" videos of speed art/painting can be related to the writing process. First of all, the artist would have to research information about what they plan on painting and get an idea of how they are going to do it and which picture to use. Onto the writing process, the artist would first have to create an outline of the picture in their head or possibly on the surface that they plan to do the speed art on. The artist also would have to decide which food they would use as their paint I guess you can say; one used cheetos as the other used barbeque sauce and ribs. I am sure that the artists go through very many rough drafts and make changes to their painting before making their final painting; just as I myself would do with writing an essay. Just when you think that they are done, they make changes to it to make it more detailed and complete, as a writer would do the same thing. I never realized how similar this speed art is to the writing process until I started to compare the two. I can relate this to my personal writing because it is very creative. I see myself as a creative writer and just write down the things that come into my head. It would take a very creative mind to think of using food as an art utensil and to make the final image as perfect as can be. I would say that these videos did not inspire me a whole lot just because while I was watching them I wasn't thinking of how to compare the process to my own writing. I found it very interesting that a human mind is capable enough to take edible food and turn it into art. This proofs that the human mind is capable of doing almost anything it sets itself to do.
I have learned about a lot of things in class today. During class, we played jeopardy over five different subjects. Three of the subjects were summaries, paraphrasing, and quotes while the other two were about the two passages we were supposed to read for homework. The first lesson that I have come to learn which I should have already known is to read the reading enough to where I comprehend all of the material and understand it completely. I got lucky on a couple of questions because I just happened to read about them right before class had started. I already knew most about the three categories that were not readings. I really like doing this in class over just lectures because I feel that the class becomes more involved instead of just listening to the teacher speak; sometimes people may not pay attention as much that way as I am one of those... I learned a lot more about the readings than I would ever of had if we would have just lectured over them in class. Playing jeopardy makes everyone participate more because it is more interesting and there is something up for stakes; this time it was bonus points. I am glad that my group had one now knowing that I will be granted five bonus points on this next essay that is due. Also, I interacted more with the classmates in my group than I had the whole semester before today. I hope that there will be more classes like this one in the future.
I am not the kind of person who likes the "romantic" relationships and to be around my girlfriend all the time. I have been dating my girlfriend for almost two years now. When we first started dating, everything was great and all but as it progressed I became less and less enthused to be around her and to do stuff with her all the time. All though I started to have these feelings, I discovered that I truly loved her and did not want to let her go. It was my senior year in high school. I had so much to do such as college stuff for next year, homework, work, and sports. I merely had enough time to spend time with my girlfriend anymore. I contemplated on breaking up with her but was not set and stone on that idea. She had gotten wind from someone that I have been thinking about breaking up with her. She became very upset and mad; she wouldn't answer my calls nor talk to me for almost a week. I went to my parent for help knowing they have been able to put up with each other for over thirty years now. I told them my situation and they influenced me not to give up. I asked them for some ideas of what to do. They came up with ideas such as sending her flowers on a weekday "just because it's Wednesday" and leaving her unexpected letters. Needless to say, their advice had worked and everything is back to normal so far; until I run into another time where I do not have time to spend with her. Life goes on.
It's not so much that I am afraid of writing, but more so that I am afraid of failing at writing. It seems that everytime I write an essay for school that my grade is not always the best, I feel that I do better than my grade shows and that drops my confidence level towards writing.
ReplyDeleteA witch, Santa Claus, and the Easter bunny all broke into a museum.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching the videos in class today over remixing, I have a new perspective over how many things in our world are actually copied, or as you may say, "remixed" all around the world.
ReplyDeleteThere are many reasons to how the "inspiring" videos of speed art/painting can be related to the writing process.
ReplyDeleteI have learned about a lot of things in class today.
ReplyDeleteI am not the kind of person who likes the "romantic" relationships and to be around my girlfriend all the time.
