  1. The reason why I am here are Rhodes State today started way back in fifth grade. When I was younger I was never the one to fret over perfect grades; I just wanted to get out of school as soon as possible. In fifth grade, that all changed. We would have award assemblies every nine weeks throughout the school year called "Renaissance Days." During this assembly, The students who got good grades that quarter were recognized by their hard work and dedication to school work. These students got cards and were able to be excused from one day of school the following nine weeks without it counting against them. There were three types of cards: Yellow, White, and Red. Requirements for the yellow card were 3.0 GPA and only missing 2 days of school. White were 3.5 GPA and only missing 3 days of school, and red were 3.5 GPA and only missing 2 days of school. These renaissance days got me fired up and motivated to do well in school because what kid wouldn't want a free day off of school? I started to progress as the school years went by and finally by my 8th grade year I would have a 4.0 GPA. This success carried over into high school where I work equally hard on my school work and care too much to give up now.

  2. After graduating high school this spring I am going to continue to pursue my education. I plan to transfer out of Rhodes if that is what you call it and go to a bigger University. Three Universities that I am contemplating are South Dakota State, Wyoming, and Missouri. There are many reasons why I might want to go to these colleges. First of all, I want to major in the agriculture field and these universities are very highly rated in this field. Another reason is that I do not want to stay around home. My philosophy is that if I stay around home, I will never learn to grow up and would not be as successful as I can be with going out of state. This summer I went on college visits to these three schools and loved the atmosphere out there. Right now I would say that I am leaning towards South Dakota State because it is a little more newer and technological advanced than the others. When I was in middle school, I always wanted to be a lawyer because I would get to argue but as I grew up I understood more of what a lawyer was and have shunned away from it a little. I live on a farm and love working with animals and your everyday farm things so that is why I am interested in pursuing the agricultural field. I have also contemplated marketing and thought that I might be able to do both by majoring in, you guessed it, Agricultural Marketing. Everything happens for a reason and I will just continue to follow the path that I was meant to follow.

  3. I plan to go to college out west for a reason. That is where I want to live after I finish college. There are many different reasons for me to want to live out there. Primarily, I want to live in Iowa. I want to live there for many reasons. The land is flat and great for farming and raising animals. Also, there are windmills all over the place which makes for a beautiful landscape. Driving through Iowa to go to my college visits I noticed all of the different corporation headquarters there are. There are companies such as Kinze, Case IH, John Deere, New Holland, and many more that have major companies throughout Iowa. These companies are farm companies and that it kind of along the line of what I want to work in the rest of my life. Living in Iowa would be a great atmosphere to get a job and climb my way up the latter I think that it would be the perfect place to raise a family because most of it is rural and there isn't much violence or bad influence as there is in such places as Florida or California. When you think of Ohio, it is about split fifty/fifty between agriculture and business culture. Out west, it is probably split 85/15 between agriculture and business. When looking for a job in the field I want to go in to, it would be much easier to find one in Iowa, South Dakota, etc. than it would be to find one in Ohio because there are many more opportunities.

  4. People always say it is good to have a back up plan in case your original plan doesn't pan out. My back up plan would be to go into marketing/communications or sports management. I haven't put too much thought into my back up plan because I don't ever anticipate on having to use it. I marketing degree or a communications degree can be used for a lot of different things. A communications degree can be used in the field of business, advertising, public relations, government, law enforcement, and many more. A marketing degree is pretty self-explanatory, it can be used to get jobs in sales, advertising, or marketing. I have always been interested in marketing and advertising but not interested enough to want to pursue it as my major. I might contemplate on minoring in one of these subjects as well. I love sports and have been around them my whole life. Originally, when I started my college search sports management was the front runner for what I wanted to do. I got to talking to people that have a degree in sports marketing and it kind of changed my mind. My assistant soccer coach majored in sports marketing at Ohio Northern and graduated about five years ago. He still hasn't got a job above from being a high school assistant and sports coach. I thought that maybe there wasn't as many jobs in sports management as I thought and that it probably wasn't the job for me, but I will continue to keep it on the back burner for a backup along with Marketing and Communications.

  5. I have played soccer for most of my life and here recently it has come to a slight halt. Every since I was little I have played soccer. First, I started out in a recreational league and played for Huntsville. I played for the zoning district of Huntsville all the way up through sixth grade. I took a break from soccer in my seventh and eighth grade years because our middle school did not have a soccer team and I was to old to play for Huntsville anymore. During this break from soccer, I decided to join the football team. I played football for both my seventh and eighth grade years. To be honest, I was not very good at football, only about average. I never grew until I was a sophomore in high school so I was not big enough to do anything productive in football. At the end of my eighth grade year I began to contemplate what I wanted to do in high school because I did not want to become a loser that did nothing. I decided that going back to soccer was right for me. Now, I stand as a six foot one inch senior and am basically a tank on the field. I have played for the varsity soccer team all four years throughout high school. Last night was my senior night, and I am definitely not ready for my career in soccer to end. I have filled out recruitment forms for colleges but think that what I will end up doing is playing for a club team instead of a varsity team if anything at all through college.m Although I do not plan to play professional soccer, I have put my blood, sweat, and tears into this sport and I am not ready to let it go quite yet.
